Whole Grains and Risk of Stroke

"The higher the consumption
 of whole grains, the lower
the risk of ischemic stroke"

In the Nurses’ Health study, women who used the most whole grains had the lowest risk of stroke. Notice that women who ate even 1 serving per day had a decrease in risk. Women who ate 3 serving of whole-grain bread and cereals daily had from 40% (all women) to 50% (women who never smoked) lower risk of stroke.

Eating whole grains, 3 or more servings daily, is a simple but effective way to reduce risk of stroke, our nations 3rd leading cause of death.
Data shown is for ischemic stroke, the most common kind of stroke.
