Click on the links to read the whole article or to access their web resources. Select those topics you are most interested in by clicking on the links. 1. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services introduces, "Steps to a Healthier US", a short brochure explaining how to change the way health care is delivered in the United States. The Department of Health and Human Services suggests changing our health care system from it's primary emphasis on reactive (crisis) care to proactive (prevention and health promotion) care. They build the case for community health promotion programs to encourage responsible healthy choices (released 2003). 2. A Healthier Nation -- The president's web site . An interactive web site with links to excellent information on healthy living. You will need to read these articles on line or print out the web pages on your printer. 3. Spirituality and Clinical Care. An editorial from the British Medical Journal emphasizing the benefit of including spiritual care as an integral part of health care. The author compares spiritual care to nutrition care. "If people are not fed properly, resistance weakens and wounds do not heal. Evidence is growing in volume and quality that this holds true for spiritual sustenance too." 4. NIH Obesity Education Initiative, Practical Guidelines for Weight Management. This guide is an excellent resource providing information for the assessment and management of obesity for health professionals. 5. Aim for a healthy Weight. Practical weight loss guidelines for the general public by NIH. This is an interactive site and will need to be viewed with web pages. |
